Rear Brake On The Left?

I bought my cyclocross used and I was wondering if it was typical to have the rear brake on the left. Maybe for dismounting control or something?

exactly. If you dismount on the left side of the bike then some people find it useful to have the rear break on the left. This way as you approach an obstacle and kick your right leg over and grab the top tube with your right hand while breaking with the left hand you won't have the bike bounce up on you...

I like to have my right hand control the front brake, anyway. I feel like I can modulate it better that way.

It's standard practice in NZL for the front brake to be on the right.
