I have a pair of ultegra level triple brifters doing nothing. can these work on a double set up ( i was hoping to go sram 2300)? Or will I need to pony up the cash for a new set?
and on that topic - anybody know if the sram s300 will be ok in a 9 speed set up>?

They should be fine. You can limit the FD for 2 chainrings.
