Shimano cantilevers BR-MC70 for CX racing

I have a chance to purchase a set of NOS and wondered how they perform. Do they compare to the latest cantilevers on offer today, weight and performance etc. The trend towards a wide cantilever seems to be all the rage ie Pauls Kore and even the new Tektro's 520's and 720's all be it the latter have more adjustability with the brake pads. Any advice on the best setup would also be appreciated. I'll be using these on my cross bike for racing.

i don't have any experience with them personally, but when i look at pictures of shimano's wide profile models, i can't determine if you can adjust toe with them... aside from bending the post of course. that would certainly make setup trickier. i'm sure you could set them up to work just as well as a modern wide profile, if you know what you're doing. however, i'm sure the more modern ones are lighter and probably easier to work with, etc.

not really the same brake, but i race cross and run the lower profile M737 xt canti's. i am super pleased with them. they are WORLDS better than the avid 6's i used to have. much more powerful and much better modulation. never had a hint of shuddering. you can adjust toe on these...

i have mine setup with the stock pads, the stock shimano straddle cables, and run my pads with the posts pretty far inward, to make the stance wider. the smooth post makes them a bit trickier to setup, but it's not that bad if you're familiar with canti's. however, the smooth post also makes them that much more adjustable, over a more modern spherical washer pad, considering you can adjust the stance width further by adjusting where the pad sits.

Thanks for your reply isotopesope the M737 look good and at a good price also. however having done a little more reasearch i found out that the BR-M70 adjust like the M737 and also toe adjustment, no bending of the post needed. So i gave them a shot. NOS inc pads stradddle etc. I'm replacing Tektro oryx. Iv'e set up the rear and they seem to work very well so i'm hoping the fronts are as good.

the wedge shaped washer, that is on the part that holds the brake pad post, twists and allows you to change the toe.

ah ok. thanks for clearing that up for me. i was wondering about that, as i noticed a little tab on that washer...
