Always dissapointed in the lack of Raceworthy SS bikes...

http://www.feltracing.com/09-catalog.../09-breed.aspx but just stumbled onto this, its geared for cross racing and i feel like designed with SS cross in mind. thats pretty cool. and i wasted so much time trying to get my Rob Roy to weigh less... |
the breed is a pretty sweet bike. We have one at the shop and I almost bought it I liked it so much. Its a really solid race build, the geometry is good, it looks awesome, bottle opener, etc...its just a solid bike. The only thing I didnt like was the shape of the bar but thats simply a personal thing.
Probably the coolest thing is behind the bottle opener it has a outline of the bottle opener with replace when drunk...done written on it except drunk is kinda crossed out |
Really nice bike but I'm not sure I see much difference between it and other SS cross bikes. How is it more race ready than this for example...
http://i461.photobucket.com/albums/q...ss_Charc_l.jpg ...or some of the other SS cross bikes available. What's race worthy? |
Race-worthy? I've seen guys rocking Bianchi San Joses, beating guys on rigs that probably cost five times as much.
For racing, I'd choose a Rob Roy with tubulars over a Colnago with clinchers anyday. |
nice looking bike

nothing wrong with tricross or san jose, but they are designed as multi purpose bikes (eyelets, fixed/free hubs n such) for commuting and trail riding...
i just think its cool that this bike is out of the box ready for cross racing. its something different in the market... maybe not as versatile as other ss cross bikes out there, but it doesnt have to be... |
The breed looks nice.. just needs fender/rack mounts.
|
The felt actually looks nice. I like that its not extremely technical as the tri-cross( although I will agree that it is a very worthy SS). I personally ride a Bianchi San Jose and it handles well of course with adjustments I have made with some after market parts. With exception to the crankset minus the "rockguard" I think all the stock parts are entry level or commuter oriented. Just like any bike it takes a bit to get it dialed in to get it race ready. About 70 percent of the stock parts I have swapped out for " upgraded" parts or parts that I am partial to. I use clinchers for the sake of ever changing climate and terrain where I live. If I didn't ride the Bianchi, I would look for some other steel single speed. Again, the Felt looks clean and I would consider it.

Yeah, I really hate how the extra 1.2g of those rack and fender mounts hobble me on the hills, it's like I'm dragging an anchor.

I like fender rack mounts. I know they might take away from the" race only" look but fenders in muddy trail rides etc are very helpful. belgium style.

i think thats pretty weak the US bike industry is approaching cross from lots of different angles now and im stoked for more racing specific bikes personally. |

If the rack/fender mounts bother you, take an angle grinder and cut that tab off and touch it up.

Oh, and the fender mounts. I ****ing hate losing races because of fender mounts. |
