Fellow wichita rider hi there.

build list:
2010 Cannondale Quick CX frame
Cannondale Super Fatty DLR80 headshok fork
Sram Wide S Series cranks (S902) with 46T X-Sync ring
Sram Red 2x10 levers
3T Ergonova Team 44cm bars
Avid BB7-Road calipers, 160mm discs
DT Swiss R24 Spline Disc wheels
WTB Nano 700x40 TCS tires tubeless with Orange Seal

What's next:
I might try a Specialized Trigger Pro 700x38 rear tire to see how much faster it is than the Nano (I know it's lighter).

I'm probably moving to 42T front and 11-36 rear - already have the parts. I underestimated the rolling diameter of the Nano 40c, it's a freaking big tire. When I can do 30 mph spinning about 100 rpm in the 3rd smallest cog, that means my chainring is too large.

Finally, I'm looking at winter commuting options. I've found some studded tires from last winter on closeout and I'd rather buy now and hold them than pay full price in November.
Nice keeper of the plains pics.

Gravel Frankenbike

A few photos of my project gravel bike from a PX10LE frame, spare parts and a couple of partial road bike frames gifted to me from a LBS. Right now it’s a one by. The chain I bought today wasn’t long enough.

Test ride tomorrow.

I may have to find a U08 frameset for a similar build. Good to know they can handle 40mm tires! How did the test ride pan out?

Just built up a 56cm Surly Cross Check frame with a used set of Shimano 105s (50/34 to 11-32), Tektro brakes, and Alexrims CX28 wheels with 32mm Kenda touring tires. As I'm kind of a heavyweight myself (at 270 lbs), the weight of the frame is no issue at all. I highly recommend this setup for other big boys

I agree, it is cool, but I'll tell ya from experience - downtube shifters and knobby tires don't always play together well. You had better have your reach dialed in when you reach down to change gears!

Are reflectors back in style? I’ve seen a couple sets in this thread. I remember taking them off my bike as a kid, and my neighbor asking what I was doing. “Saving weight,” I said. He replied, “You might as well spit out your gum while you’re at it.” He had a point.

C-Dale Topstone 105, at Chisholm State Park, overlooking East Brooklyn, NY. Purchased late November ‘19, has new WTB Riddler 45mm tires, which are a great tire, 37 or 45.

Though I've used it *very* little for 'cross, ol' Jake has done just about everything else for me since bought new 20 years ago.
Still cleans up nice.

I got to 10 posts!!!

Here's my just-finished gravel conversion, based on a 12 year-old Schwinn Tourist (Target/Walmart-level hybrid bike). It's my new favoritest bike!
