Anyone use a pair of Fulcrum 7's with 35's? I want to get a second wheelset so I don't have to keep swapping out tires and was wondering about these since they are real cheap online. It is either use the Fulcrums with my 25c slicks or my Maxxis 35's.

Just finished this build on Monday, I'm pretty happy with the bike so far. I've put about 50miles on it this week and think I'm gonna dump the Knobbies for something with less rolling resistance as I don't think I'm gonna do much offroading with this bike. I built it up as a Durable yet quick bike for riding around New Orleans (our streets are ROUGH!).

The saddle is great. Definitely one of the most comfortable saddles I have used (and I have used Rolls, Ariones etc,.) Happily ride for 2 hours plus without even noticing it.

Probably try a Knife soon as should be just as comfortable but a bit lighter and a smaller profile.

Why did you shorten the stem and move your seat rearward? Aren't cyclocross bikes suppose to have more weight displacement towards the front? Also, the Kona already has a 72 degree seat tube and a 71 degree head tube, which less than most road bikes? Let me know why you set it up like that.

Just built this for my wife.
Scattante XRL Cross set up for road and possible light trail. Shimano 105 9sp group with Tiagra shifters.




And this one is for my brother. Motobecane Fantom CX with basically Sora 8 speed.
I really like this frame for the money too, but the XRL wins since I got it on sale for nearly the same as the FantomCX.
This was more budget minded and has a neat mash up of parts.

Full Shimano Ultegra group.
I have a set of Ultegra/Open Pro wheels for offroad use and I use this bike for commuting and now Saturday road rides as well (with a wheel swap).

What I will say after riding the bike for a month is that it is superb. It handles brilliantly (and I really test the handling by running knobless tyres and riding on singletrack and compacted gravel so fast cornering is always fun!) and it climbs really well. But the surprise was how comfortable it is, it just seems to soak up the bumps which I really didn't expect with a stiff alu frame (albeit scandium)

Beautiful!!! I've been wanting one of those for awhile now. You obviously built it up from a frame. Great job. I have a Masi 3VC road bike and have really fell in love with their line of bikes.

finally finished my gruppo swap! here she is in road form! swapped with ultegra rear, front, derailleurs and brifters, 105 chain/cassette, SLK cantis with front fork mounted cable hanger, ritchey stem, mavic aksium wheelset and the super light SLR saddle!

I absolutely love them. Even on the stock pads, just broken in, they stop very well. I got a set of dual compound kool stops that I've yet to install, but first impressions are positive. the 3 settings allowed me to completely get rid of that nasty mushy feeling of the old oryx cantis. Also, the fork mounted hanger got rid of the shudder.

I really need a new digital camera. But the cross bike has some new parts this year. Added an Ultegra rear der. new 105 crank off of e-bay mated with a new Dura Ace 7900 bottom bracket. The frame/fork is a 1998 model and the rest of the bike has 32h Mavic MA3 rims with 14g spokes, Shimano 105 hubs, Ultegra 8 speed shifters, 12-28 SRAM cassette, Avid brakes with Shimano levers, Easton stem, Salsa bar, currently have Panaracer tires but I think I will put on some Kenda Small Block 8's when the cross racing starts. Yes that's a Rox Shox shock post and it takes the sting out of the remounts.

If your going to ride that bike off road I would strongly suggest you rethink that stem idea.....

I never mentioned seat post. I mentioned stem. Its that little clampy thing that is holding your handlebars 10 inches or so above your frame. There is no way in hell a stem that tall is ever going to hold up to any rough off roading. I would hate to see it break of on a fast downhill section only to have the sharp jagged edge stab you in the eye. That would suck..... just sayin
