I like the clean country air associated with dirt/gravel roads along with forest service roads. I just use my ATB/Trekking/Utility bike....... I like to run 15-25 miles on gravel then get a cup of coffee.......

Nice fat bike. In particular I dig your rack/utility fashion........

How much tire clearance is there for these guys?

Is your seat post backwards?

The bike comes stock with 38's Bluesdawg is running 40's. The seatpost is the cobble gobbler, it's suppose to smooth out the ride.

Nice bike! Tell us more. Have you changed gearing or tires? How does it ride and handle?

abby4000 09-04-13 01:53 PM

Bone stock right now. May change out the rear cassette at some point to give more hill climbing gearing but it is not an absolute necessity.
Handles very well on the road and in the trails/fire roads. The brakes absolutely SUCK, doing some research to investigate alternative set ups.

Pretty much a good do all bike. Dirt roads, trail, cross racing.

Is it just me or the left shifter much lower than the right one?

2012 Ridley X-Fire...still need to do a little tweaking with the fit. Its the same size as my road bike (56) so it feels a little big, having a traditional Euro cx geometry- tall seat tube, straight top tube etc. Not much room in the 'standover', but after a little research I decided this didnt matter and went with it. I think it will work just fine. Got smokin' deal on it too.

You should try and relax your grip and let the bike just float over the rough stuff as much as you can. Many times i am barely gripping the bars and just letting them float in my hands over really rough stuff. It does take some time to get comfortable with skinny tires on dirt but you will get to a point you can relax a little more.

Thanks for the feedback. I did that a little towards the end of the ride but I think I was too far gone at that point :) Oh well just gotta keep practicing.

We have all been there. I have been riding my CX bike on gravel grinders and single track for years and I still have to remind myself to loosen my grip on rough terrain at time!

Welcome to the gravel grinder club btw, it is lots of fun.
