The Boone was actually where I first noticed them. Are they for front derailleur clearance? The campagnolo internal battery? That the only two the I can think of.

Nice. The white stem looks a little out of place, but that's pretty minor.

can you tell me what the deal is with the seat tube water bottle bosses? Are their spacers on there? I've seen them on the trek marketing shots as well but they only ever show them on the seat tube.

You are right about the stem. I am waiting on a black one. I was wondering about the water bottle bosses too, haven't taken them off yet but will.

[QUOTE=Ghost Ryder;16461292]Nice rig!
You find the OEM garmin mount to sufficient when CX'n?
Mine would move around a bit when on a rough course/terrain.
I ended up buying a proper mount, Barfly 2.0.
Now it doesn't move unless I want it to. :thumb:

I have had no issues with the garmin moving around, much less coming off.

They are spacers and I don't know their purpose. I took them off and put the screws back in.

I wonder why trek is doing this. FD clearance is the most logical, but the bosses seem high enough on most examples that it wouldn't be an issue.

That's a sweet-looking machine! What crank and bottom bracket length are you using?

I'm using a UN55 BB (110mm) and 170mm Shimano 600 cranks with a 48T chainring.

Finished my build a couple weeks ago and have been having a blast , this bike has given new life to some familiar trails and is capable of some mild trials moves.
2014 Crux disc frame and fork , MTB gearing to handle the trails I like, Stans wheelset with 700x40c tubeless , and Hope Mono disc brakes adapted with Barend shifters 2X10. 18lbs 4 oz which is respectable for an aluminum frame dual disc bike IMO.
This is pretty much a budget rip of Martyn Ashtons Road bike party II bike and somewhat of a tribute to a down ( but not out) biking great.
Anyway, Fun build and really fun learning to ride "in the drops"

I almost went with a VO crank when I built my Surly. It looks great with that frame.

It's a fun ride. Gravel grinders are popping up all over the country now and it's a good crowd just out to challenge themselves and enjoy the camaraderie.

60Cycles - I absolutely love the Soma Triple Cross, but then I am partial to shiny bikes too. That frame has been saved to my favorites folder for quite sometime now, but I am sure they will be sold out before I can save up. Enjoy that ride!

Here is my drop bar converted Jamis Coda that serves as my latest gravel rig.

motrheadsroadie 02-09-14 12:34 PM

no, its called starburst.

The Triple Cross does not use Tange Prestige tubing. As per Soma's website: Fillet brazed KVA MS2 double butted stainless steel tubing. Really nice frame btw.

I believe he was referring to the fork.

kaliayev 02-09-14 03:35 PM

Oops, poor reading comprehension. Really do like the frame.

Yep... the fork and bars are carbon. I should have mentioned the KVA stainless tubes. Thanks though.
It cleans up real nice.
Anyone going to Almanzo?

motrheadsroadie 02-09-14 04:06 PM

the skittles paint was from a year or two ago. the starburst is only available as a frameset for 2014.

60Cycles 02-09-14 04:09 PM

Nice rig. How are you liking the shifters? I have known a couple of the brifters to develop problems and sometimes think less (moving parts) may be more on an unsupported ride, miles from nowhere.

Thanks. It was an impulse when I discovered that it was being built and distributed. A friend of mine has a DoubleCross and I was looking on the Soma site for something with more BB drop then what most cross racers offer.
