Apologies to the purists (for now, when fall comes it'll be pure). Here's my shiny new kona jake the snake, '05 frame that I bought and built up myself (with a generous amount of help from a good friend). It pretty much kicks ass all over town and is even fun on the road.
I'm gonna get rid of these dumb bar ends though when I start working after this semester ends and get some STI levers.

A few months ago I sent Doug Curtiss (Curtlo Cycles) a deposit and then waited. After we spoke about what I wanted he got to work and I eventually got a tag from the post office saying there was a parcel waiting for me.
I built up the bike with Ritchey WCS stem, bars and seat post. Shimano Cantilever brakes, Regal Saddle, Centaur 10 compact crank, Front and rear ders, Shifters. American Classic 10 speed cassette. Shimano Ultegra hubs laced 3x to Mavic MA3 rims which I had in the garage ( still in the wrappers). In the pictures I have Michelin tires mounted, they have since been removed and replaced with Vredestein Campo Cross. I love the Campo Cross tire, and so it stand to reason that Vredestein would dis-continue it, I have no idea why they have done that.
The frame and fork ( a custom steel fork built by Doug) are True Temper OX Platinum, a nice light steel frameset.
The bike rides like a dream.

I really like the Vredestein Campo Cross which will run at both low pressure and high pressure, came in 28 and 32.
It seems that they have stopped making it and the repalcement, the Premiato is rated for max pressure of 60 pounds.
I am on the hunt for a new all purpose cross tire in the 28/30 size that will take higher pressure (90 to 95 pds).
Not easy to find so looking for info.
I cannot understand why they dq'd the Campo Cross.

The Ritchey Speedmax pro's are avilable in 28, 30, and 32mm, and can be inflated to 90lbs.

Here's my Waterford X-11 I picked up off Craigslist a few months ago. Came with full Dura Ace 9, Paul's Neo Retro, Open Pro/Ultegra wheels/Ritchey WCS CX tires. I replaced the Paul's with Tektros because there was never enough clearance on this bike to install them correctly so they deliver full braking power. Tektros work perfectly even though they don't do the bike justice! I use it for commuting and & have an extra set of wheels (both pics below) for riding road with my wife. Came with lots of blue as you can see and is growing on me so I decided to keep the theme with the blue road tires.

2000 Limba, Kinesis USA built Scandium with Wound-Up carbon fork and Shimano bar end shifters because I'm tired of replacing expensive STI stuff. Michelin mudders on Ultegra/MA3s for the dirt and Michelin Hi-Lite Prestige tires on Spinergy wheels for road riding.

I'm glad I just built this up, becuase my carbon LOOK bike was stolen yesterday!
Dura-ace shifters, Ultegra front and rear, Elita cranks, burly commuting wheels/tires, and a buttload of headset spacers. I rode it into work this morning and loved it. It's so nice not having to worry about every pothole or crack in the road.

As my first CX bike, I'm morphing an old Bianchi. Here as it exists today. A CX fork w/ cantelever brakes, bar end shifters and 36/46 chain rings are on the list of next additions

Hey, Thanks for the nice comments. The CX experiment is fun and the bike is really starting to grow on me. I'm discovering a lot of things about building/riding CX. I don't think I will put ona rear disk because this would require a disk compatable rear hub and welding of disk tabs to the frame. However, thanks for the suggestion. If I discover that I CX quite a bit, I will buy a dedicated CX bike with disk brakes.
