haha - actually it's been a work in progress for almost a year - slowly collecting parts as my wallet allowed it.

My new Independent Fabrication
Here she is with the training wheels. I plan on racing on Ksyrium SL tubulars.. Full Ultegra 10 speed, shifts better than my DA 9 speed did. 46x38 up front with a 12x27 in the rear.

I am considering to ride my bike all year round, but living in Chicago the winter can be a big pain in the butt(snow, freezing temp,snow, and more snow). Seeing all these cross bikes I was wondering if I can convert my Lemond Etape in to cross cycle by just changing the tires. If this sounds like a stupid question bare with me I am new to the sport.

Maybe, if you can fit some very narrow knobbies in there. I'm not sure how much that would gain you, in terms of poor weather performance. The Etape is spec'd with 700x25s, so I'd imagine that the chainstays and fork won't allow anything more substantial than 700x28, like many road bikes.

Yeah, you might be better off with a dedicated winter bike if you can swing it. You probably won't be able to fit very large knobbies onto the Lemond, plus it likely doesn't have fender eyelets (or if so, definitely not space for knobbies AND fenders). You can pry my fenders from my cold (wet) hands... especially in slushy Winter weather.
Although to be honest I generally don't have much of a problem riding my fixie with 23c slicks all winter here in Toronto. But, I don't think we get nearly as bad weather compared to Chicago in the Winter. If it gets bad enough, I'll just take transit, but I only resorted to that a handful of times the past couple of years.

haven't weighed it with tyres, but sans tyres it's 21 lbs - so it should be 25-26 all in.

Campagnolo: Centaur front derailer, Centaur brifters and cableset. Avid: Road Disc brakes. Easton: EA30 seat post. Selle Italia: Fokus saddle. Specialized: bottle cage (16 years old!). Ritchey: pedals. Continental: Twister (non-folding) tyres. Salsa: 46 cm Bell Lap handlebars.
wheelset: custom built at my LBS with Deore disc hubs, Sun CR-18 rims and straight-gague DT Swiss spokes.
other: Cinelli tape, generic seat quick release, Jtek Shiftmate and Kenda tubes.

Thanks for the compliment. I got both bikes second hand of a semi-pro rider that lives local to me, who had only used them for 1/2 the season before his proper bikes arrived.

Here is my Fuji Cross Pro ( i paid 1250$ at Performance Bike in Paoli, pa), after a seemingly endless wait. I am stoked so far, minus the rock hard saddle. I added a pimped out carbon cage, and yellow candy c pedals. I will change the stock saddle out.
As far as sizing, the 54 is the perfect size for me ((69-70") 32" pant inseam, @205lbs) so far in the drops sitting up and seat height, although i have only been aboard for 60-90 minutes a ride since getting the bike Monday. The sizing chart and the effective length of the top tube were the key specs from the fuji website and testing larger bikes, like the 58/56 and feeling a bit uncomfortable.
Anyway i am starting to work on dismounts and mounts, i feel completly newbie, which suits me fine, the whole thing is very challenging. I have starting adding runs to my mountain biking and cross rides to get used to the activity. Overall i am stoked....!

Well, this is my new ride to be.... since i will be using this on the road and off, I am changing out the cassett to a 12-27 and the crank to a 50-34. So with two water bottle cages, clip less pedals and shoes, along with convertable vavle stem adaptders and a small tail bag with co2 and a tube it is roughly otd @1400.
It will not be ready for pick up until Friday.... I have been using my 42pound + mountain bike to ride around and have already dropped about 15 pounds so i will hopefully break the 200 pound barrier in this up coming week....
I chose this bike over the team, since i was riding my mtb on the road and looked over my shoulder to see if a cage was approaching and ran off the road if i have been on slick road tires I am sure I would have been over the side of the road and went down the 10 foot drop running into trees etc along the way, but the 2.5 inch wide mtb tires gripped and i was able to stay up right, it was a rush though.....
