Cyclocross and Gravelbiking (Recreational) This has to be the most physically intense sport ever invented. It's high speed bicycle racing on a short off road course or riding the off pavement rides on gravel like : "Unbound Gravel". We also have a dedicated Racing forum for the Cyclocross Hard Core Racers.

I don't know if this qualifies as a "gravel" bike (what does?) but it's my all-rounder that can handle a lot of surfaces. 2000 Gunnar Crosshairs converted to upright bars to help my 70-year old neck.

Time Alp D'Huez X with Campy Ekar groupset, Deda gravel cockpit, new Campy Shamal C21 wheelset and 700x30 Continental GP5000TR tubeless tires... Been very impressed so far, both with the quality and the ride.

How is the Ti stem compared to an Al? Is it more comfortable/less precise...

It’s been years since I had an aluminum stem and I think a stem is so short that there’s probably not much difference. I went with titanium because it’s a titanium bike. I would have gotten titanium cranks, but the budget was not there.

After building my own gravel bike up last winter, I've spent more time on our crushed limestone trails. My wife has ridden these on here Liv hybrid along side me, but wanted to try a different bike.
This summer I looked around for frames to build a very small gravel bike, but didn't find much that she liked the looks of. I did still have in storage a 94 Schwinn Crosscut hybrid that she didn't ride anymore, and she agreed that I should convert that.
It is an unusual model, 16" frame with 26" rims, quite small. I've kept most of the old drivetrain stuff, but had to swap the FD to an older RSX which is happier with the Shimano STI shifter.
The tires are Serfas Drifter 26x1.5, the originals were 26x1.35.
Her test ride was yesterday, and it did pretty well with minor adjustments.

Ritchey Swiss Cross.

The drivetrain is an absolute comedy mash - up, 3 x 11 with a 48-36-26 in front and 11-34 in rear, comprised of a 105 + Tiagra brifters, Tiagra FD, GRX 810 rear derailleur, and a Deore XT T8000 crankset with a Stages power meter, all paired to TRP Spyre mechanical discs. It all works without a hitch, surprisingly enough.

Wheels are LB R45 which used to be on my road bike with Carbon-Ti hubs, and GP5000 TLR in 32mm complete the ensemble.

Ritchey seatpost and stem, ZIPP 36cm bars, Specialized Power Saddle, Xpedo spry flat pedals.

Total mash-up of all sort of bits and bobs and various parts but it's a fun to ride as a light gravel / allroad / commuting / everything bike.

Pretty quick on the road, too.

Rode to the beach on my new Revolt. This thing is a dirt TCR and I love it - it's got all the extra compliance and clearance you'd expect from a gravel bike, but the lower half of the bike is very stiff so you when give it the beans it GOES.

Added a Seven Ti to the quiver

After going back and forth on the adding a titanium bike to the garage again, I decided to go with the Seven Evergreen SL. The build of it is increadible. It’s a little lighter than my former Lynskey Pro GR. I took it for it’s first proper gravel ride on Friday. The bike rides really nice and took the chunky Indiana gravel very well. Looking forward to exploring on this one!

Fun in Mittel Franken

Somehow I ended up with 3 Gravel bikes... Very similar, all very much Fun.
My Planned trip back to my Hometown, Dinkelsbühl in Franconia, Germany, was just super great ! And I really wanted to have a bike which I could use on all terrain, roads, paths in the area. Original thought was to send my Poseidon X over to Germany and buy another bike for here in the US. I ended up buying a Framed Basswood (awesome good) and when time to send the PoseidonX over, the shipping cost had jumped crazy high... So I fell back to buying a bike over there - which turned out to be the Decathlon Triban 120 Grvl in M.

Triban 120 Grvl in front of Segringer Tor, Dinkelsbühl, Germany

Wasn't expecting 'Great', but good enough to enjoy during my planned yearly visits - couple months each.
I was greatly surprised... it is 'Great'. Solid performer on both road and gravel/forest path. Not super light, but not really heavy. Great components, considering the price, and solid, reliable performance.
Didn't need any changes on the running gear, just some 'preferred' mods.

Triban 120 Grvl at St Ullrich's Kapelle
My mods - Sella Italia Saddle & Rockshox seatpost (stock saddle is not bad, but is 130 mm which just doesn;t work for me), RedShift ShockStop stem with one 90 elastomer, Crank Bros Acid pedals,
Inexpensive Bar bag & saddle bag, Water bottle, holder and pump. AND some Hebie plastic Fenders - very nice, perfect width for 40-42 ish width tires, easily removable and full coverage. Found in Germany - they don;t seem to be available in the US.
I've put on about 250 miles so far, about 65% gravel, forest path, remainder on road. Bike is really great riding, just a home run for the price. Microshift 10 spd works flawlessly, reliably. Brakes work great, wheels are quite nice and free rolling, considering the price. A great value !
I already have an older Sworks Tarmac there for strictly road rides, and my Opa's fiets (1939 Phenomenen) for around town and shopping.
The Triban - a great ride, and time. Looking forward to my next trip back home!
Ride On
Yuri

Great bikes in here!

Peugeot ex-PX50L
Here’s my current gravel companion, retromod 1975 Peugeot PX50L from France. Modifications: disc brakes, shortened+widened rear triangle, full length cable housing holders for rear brake and a headtube replacement. Between paint and clearcoat, reproduction stickers matching originals were applied.
Straight steerer 1 1/8” chinesium carbon fork with a/c and rake matching to original fork was also painted to match the bike.

Rolling on 47-584 rubber, shifting gears with Sensah/Shimano 1x8 setup (36-11/32) and ride comfort is provided by that sweet Cambium C17 saddle. I’m usually riding with that diy rear rack/saddlebag for tools, gear & picnic supplies. Current mismatching parts-bin crankset is going to be replaced with more contemporary setup right after new parts arrive in the mail.

Pics of the modifications please! It looks like a brace is brazed into the left dropout?...and what style brake mount is used? Was the head tube replaced in order to accept a 1 1/8 steerer?
Did you do the modifications or a builder? Who was it if it wasnt you?
And why did you go this route instead of a new bike?

Super interested as that is a really creative project.

Thank you, this is my fave bike at the moment! Modifications are my handiwork and I think "why" can be best answered with "why not"?

Longer version of "why not" - I like the aesthetics of vintage bikes combined with some modern aspects, and for some reason, I just have a soft spot for Peugeot bikes. This bike was laying around as a frame when I bought a small brazing torch, things just gradually escalated from there. Blank canvas etc... Building new would most certainly yield better results, but I did not have the skills when I started with this bike ~2 years ago. Left rear triangle is braced for longevity, IS mount for brake. Original fork was also modded with IS disc brake mount, but it's now assigned to garage shelf ornament as that head tube was replaced with fresh cut from Columbus Zona. Brakes are cable actuated hydros (2-piston Zoom Xtech), 140mm rear disc and 160mm in front.

No pics, but here's a link to Youtube video on this project (
). I'm probably speaking gibberish to you, but video is subtitled in english for your convenience.
