Cyclocross and Gravelbiking (Recreational) This has to be the most physically intense sport ever invented. It's high speed bicycle racing on a short off road course or riding the off pavement rides on gravel like : "Unbound Gravel". We also have a dedicated Racing forum for the Cyclocross Hard Core Racers.

This bike morphed from a Bridgestone MB2 that I put a cross fork on and had cantilever bosses brazed on the seat stays to what it is today. I plan on getting rid of the triple and thowing a compact crank on. Haven't raced cross for many years due to a back surgery but I think this year it's time to give it a try to see how I hold up.

No extensions on the drops.. Standard BioMorph 3T.. which has GREAT ergonomics for a ton of positions. Really love these bars. And, yeah.. I experimented with a forward slope on the saddle for some climbing in Palos Verdes... Bombing down those hills with a position like that is something that everyone should experience....... once.

PLEASE OH PLEASE powder coat your empella and take off all of that logo crunk from your wheels / frame. It reminds me of a LOOK cycle or Johnny Storm (human torch) in the latest fantastic 4 movie. I'm sure you still have enough space for a few more logos / corporate sponsors to complete your look.

But hey, if you get sponsors... plaster it all over your bike cause who the hell am I to talk at that point.

Nevertheless,
Very nice build mind you. Very nice !

Nice bike, and nice picture as well! Haven't got that much of proper cyclocross training area where I live so it's more light mtbing for me but that area looks nice.

My first Cross build. Done on the super cheap thanks to Troy Bike Rescue (https://myspace.com/trinityrescue).

The parts are mainly whatever was on hand. Including an Iron Horse 700c hybrid frame (rattlecaned by yours truly), stock Fuji/Alex wheels, RPM cranks and a salsa ring. I bought a 13/28 8 spd cassette, new chain, some bar tape, tires, and cross levers. Total investment well under $100.

I took it out for the first ride today. I will need a chain guard and keeper for sure as I droped the chain twice in 30 min. The one bar end shifter slips a little, but once I iron out those issues, I should be all set to hurt myself this fall.

Hey fix.. are there many races in Western NY? I googled nycross and the events in the schedule I saw there all seemed to be in Eastern NY.

Hello all, I'm new here so I thought this might be a good first post. I originally got my San Jose for commuting only (hence the leather bling), but my friend says there's a league for single speed cross, so I'm pretty psyched about that. I won't do it until next year so that'll give me some time to upgrade.

By the way, you guys have some amazing rides!

Do you have any suggestions or tips if I'm training strictly for cyclocross? Thanks Flargle!

Pish posh.

At least go to a local race and watch the C's before deciding. If you race and get your ass kicked, it will be good motivation for off-season training.

Go to some spinning classes. Sounds a bit cheesy, but IMO is a great way to get into decent cycling shape. Also look for a local group ride that matches (or slightly exceeds) your level of fitness. Cyclocross-specific: get good at running. Also, get good at dismounting, carrying, and remounting the bike. Velonews currently has "cyclocross clinic" videos on its website. Watch them. And then go to the local park and practice those dismounts and remounts. I would use a cheap-o saddle for the CX practice and racing, because you'll probably bend the seat rails from not-so-elegant remounts.
