still being blown away by road bikers but thats probably more me than my bike lol

It's actually a 2006 (i have the same bike) but!!! --> that's a good thing. that was the only year i can recall where they made the lower end cross comp (one step below the cross pro) in A-6 Quarternary alloy aluminum, a stronger/lighter frame material usually reserved for their higher priced rigs. the only down side? an aluminum fork instead of carbon. this can be replaced later if you get serious, but the frame is brilliant, and my favorite paintjob of all the fuji cross bikes i've ever seen. anyway, nice rig!!!

My new (to me) Spot build, of new & old parts.

XT/Aerohead wheels, Ritchey WCS cranks, Ultegra rear der (1x9) & shift lever, King headset, etc etc.

Just took it out for a spin, and it rides great! It's begging for some mud already.......

How do you like those cranks? They're pretty cheap a lot of places.

thanks, it rides like a dream. is yours the same 08' frame? i originally was going to do rival but caved after planning it out a couple times... if i were to do some serious cross i'd probably switch out some components for more durable options.

yeah, it's an '08. I love the bike, it rides like a dream. Best aluminum frame I have ever ridden, it's so stiff, hopefully it will increase once I get carbon cranks and a better wheelset.

I have the same crank on my Specialized CX and like it a lot--very stiff and seem to have narrower Q factor than other cranks I've tried.

A couple words of warning: these were recalled due to fracturing on the non-drive side. The machining seems to have weakened them in the mid-section of the NDS arm. See details here: http://www.ritcheylogic.com/news_article.php?id=495 . But they did fix the problem by beefing up this part of the crank and reissuing--just make sure whatever cranks you're looking at have the date code after the problem became known.

Also, these take a Shimano Octalink BB, which for a while were becoming hard to find--I think they've since started offering more options for replacement in their 105 line (phasing out Ultegra and Dura Ace). All the same, a cheap crank will still require some more investment in an outmoded (but still perfectly fine) BB.

Hope this helps.

Thanks. The ones I was looking at are ISIS.

TBH I probably would run them on my SS road bike rather than my cross bike, as I'm pretty happy with my new Race Face cadence cranks (stiff!).

My first bike after 15 years of bike-less... Not the best, but it works.

"The skinny" is an old slang term for what's the low down. He's asking you basiclly how is it? Are you by chance under 30?

wec12 07-30-09 03:34 PM

Haha, got it, thanks cs1 ;p .

I think my Motobecane Fantom CX works great. Have only ridden less than 30 miles on it on the road. It's a really nice entry level bike for a newbie who has a tight budget like me.

Sweet use of barcons as downtube shifters.

bmw5nkj 08-01-09 04:10 PM

you need some moustache bars, silver stem and spacers and you are set. (though i personally prefer bar end shifters over downtube shifters)

Mainly into cycling on the road but going to have a dabble at CX with main aim being the 3 peaks cyclocross this year. Tyres now changed to Schwalbe land cruisers.

Installed the headset and fork. Just throwing on bars, saddle and wheels to get an idea of reach and drop before I break out the hacksaw.

So far, so good. Although I may flip the stem up.
