I ride this beast through skinny dirt trails way more than I do on the road.

SERIOUSLY DUDES! I'm just psyched because IMO I have the perfect setup. I have my water bottle mounted underneath so I can shoulder the bike up any steep cliffs I run into (I opted for the waterbottle cuz I don't want to wrestle with a camelbak while I charge through trails), I toss a powerbar and my cell in the saddle bag, then head to the trails and see how fast I can peddle down them without killing myself.

thanks dude The mud part definitely doesn't bother me, i just rub it off on my pants and start drinkin.

As for the drinkin on the go, I figure that if I had it mounted traditionaly I still wouldn't be drinking on the go because I don't feel safe enough pedalling through the trails with one hand on the bars and my head tilted backwards.

aside from a camel bak is there any other way to carry hydro so that it doesn't interfere with shouldering the bike?

profile design aqua rack. designed for triathlons, but i used it on my ss 'cross bike. works well and i got a lot of compliments on it.

turns out this is just the bike I like to frequently use for my urban errands... I leave the mud business to the MTBs.

here's my CX bike mid build; it's been underway for months now; the history is long and boring; trying to reuse parts on hand; turns out this is not the cheapest way to build a bike

175mm compact cranks; FSA 46T ramp/pin large chainring, candies, salsa bell lap 46 cm handlebars; 9 spd shimano with barcons; 105 hubs with velocity aluminum clincher hoops - asked Lyle at Spin Lite for a set of inexpensive beginner/trainer wheels for cross; ritchey tires (have wider hutchinson set too), ritchey fork and stem; chris king headset purchased at LBS that went out of business; TRP brakes; 105 RD, Tiagra (?) FD; thomson elite 330 mm x 27.2 mm seatpost shown - just ordered thomson elite black 250mm x 27.2 mm; E3 saddle - cheap and i like them; nashbar aluminum frame on sale for less than cheap

if i like this CX racing stuff then i'll upgrade to sram rival shifting and get some deep section wheels

My new 2010 Specialized Tricross Comp.

Love the mat black and brown colors. Pictures really don't do it justice. The brown is quite striking.

Things that seem to have changed is the new S-Works fork. Great upgrade. No front rack mounts but I never used them anyways. The front brake seems to have changed also. Not sure what model they are, but they are WIDE. The stopping power on the front brake is quite impressive. Handbars are the new Specialized CX Pro. Very shallow drops. First I've had these type of bars, but I like them. Will be interesting to see how they do off road.

New fizik bar tape, bargain £3.99 fron the bay and using campy neutrons instead of shimano 105's. They should be stronger.

Paul Milne is a UK store that specializes in cyclocross. They put together this bike with a 7005 frame and Campag powertrain about six years ago. It then raced one season before sitting for several years in the garage of a local TT star who decided that cross wasn't his thing. Bike set up is perfect - the guy serviced the bike before selling it on ebay. The price was crazzzzy low as he wasn't willing to post an was scrupulously honest about a minor headset problem that will cost me £10 to fix, when I can be bothered!

The bike will soon have BMX pedals and probably a higher stem.

Just finished building up my cross bike for racing. Built it up with minimal investment. Spent ~$250 on frame and a few parts. The rest are parts I had laying around. Just need to dial it in, get chain watcher put on once it comes in, and put on fatter tires for Tues. cross practice.
