'08 Poprad
Just a newbie here with a few questions that I hope someone might be able to help with?
I stumbled across a 08 poprad disc that could use some tlc.... there are a few things that need replacing and a few things that I want to replace. The intended use is not for CX, although I do intend on using it off-road at times(nothing extreme however). I do intend on using it to ride in the not so nice months here when i don't want to bring the roadie out and also for commuting in to town and some possible touring with a BOB trailer. I live in a very hilly area here in SE WI and already am looking at replacing the crank-set with an Ultegra CD (54/30, keeping the 12/27). I have given some thought to a CK 68mm BB to fit with the Ultegra ... also looking at replacing the headset with a CK thread-less 1 1/8" ( i don't believe there is a need for spacers?) In addition, I am looking to build up a "bombproof" wheel-set at a reasonable price. I was thinking sun, velocity or mavic rims? with CK heavy duty iso disc hubs, front/rear. I was thinking of 36/36 or 32/36 but would I need the 135mm or 150mm spacing? What rim/spoke/lacing combo would be preferred? I see the difference in price of the hubs are roughly $50 between 135/150mm spacing? As for me... I am 260ish and falling (not your typical roadie by any means....and want a sturdy wheelset none-the-less. My intended goal is to get down to 210-220 and to be able to get some good use out of this bike. I am also thinking about a Winwood Dualist Carbon Fork in the future and possibly new discs. If there is anything that anyone would be kind enough to recommend or opine, I would greatly appreciate it as I am a neophyte when it comes to the ins-and-outs on the technical side of things. Thanks in advance sh73 |
ck hubs are probably overkill, but if you like them there is no reason not to run them. 36/36 would be the most bombproof (obviously) and would only be a little more- 4 spokes and nipples worth, assuming the rim you want comes in a 36 hole drilling. you SHOULD need a 135mm hub (if im not mistaken, the 150 is more for downhill bikes)
i have yet to see the sun cr-18 be used in heavy cyclocross, but i love them, as does the lbs. cheap, durable, traditional box rim that's a little bit wider than the open pro. salsa delgado cross is also very durable, and a bit wider. you can't go wrong with a open pro, cxp-33, velocity (insert rim here). they have all been tested by time and there is a reason that they are strongly recommended, but anything strong laced with 36 spokes and a 3 cross pattern isn't going to be "weak" as long as it is built by a good builder. |
Thanks droptop... I did some research and apparently the Poprad uses 130mm spacing. Not a lot of options for 130mm disc hubs. Just trying weigh my options at this point? CK has a 36h disc using 135mm spacing but then i would need it to be compatible with 10spd cassette. Any input is welcomed!
