Cyclocross and Gravelbiking (Recreational) This has to be the most physically intense sport ever invented. It's high speed bicycle racing on a short off road course or riding the off pavement rides on gravel like : "Unbound Gravel". We also have a dedicated Racing forum for the Cyclocross Hard Core Racers.

I did it - bought new frameset

I ordered a 2010 Cannondale CAAD9 Cyclocross frameset. It comes with BB30 bottom bracket and an Easton EC90x fork. I'm pretty stoked, unfortunetely 2-4 weeks to get. The shop had a couple other nice bikes, Kuota, Blue, but one of the shop guys owned an '09 Cannondale built up and I liked it a lot. I was thinking about building either the Stigmata or Salsa Chili Con Crosso, but the CAAD9 was significantly cheaper.

I wish I only had to wait 2-4 weeks for mine. I waited 5 months but it was worth it. The frame and fork are outstanding. Mine was part of a team buy so it took longer than normal.

If you can, get the BB30 crank. It will make a difference. I have the carbon one but the alu one is the one to get. I will be upgrading in the next year.

Hearing you waited 5 months makes me a little nervous, but according to LBS I am on the list for the current production run. I asked about getting the '09 and apparently they sold out in '08. I did not purchase the Cannondale crank, just too expensive for me at this time since I still need wheels. I may run my compact Rival crank set with smaller rings and use the BB30 adapter until I can afford the CDale crank...which is the end goal.

The price was $800 plus tax for the frame set. The Stigmata with Alpha Q fork is $1,200 and Salsa Chili Con Crosso frame set $987 locally. The guy at the shop where I bought the CDale seemed to know his stuff and they took the time to give me a proper fit. This is always a selling point for me. My team broke ties with a different local shop, otherwise I could have gotten the Salsa at 20% off. The shop dropped us because a few guys on the team are idiots and complained about trivial stuff.

My next purchase will be a custom tubular wheel set or perhaps Easton EA70x. I am definitely going tubular for this rig.

We ordered out of their production run and they ran out of tubes before mine was build. We placed our order in Jan. Most of my team got theirs in 3 months mine took 2 additional. Don't sweat it, I'm sure you will be fine. I also went with tubs on this one. Mine are an older DA hub laced to some mavic gl330's. They make a huge difference. Otherwise my clincher wheel set are ksyrium equipes. With a ulegra 9 speed build mine comes in around 18 lbs.

I'm surprised you didn't try the Blue. My LBS carries them and just got a CX 6.5 in yesterday. I was having a few odds and ends put on my Presidio, and the owner showed my the Blue. Pretty farkin sweet! The manager at the LBS races over in Europe (I think he's a pro) and is sponsored by Blue. He rides the full carbon CXC and I guess he loves it. Who knows, I might just buy the CX 6.5 frameset next year. Probably way lighter than my steel Presidio, and I should be able to get the frame for around $600 or so.

The Blue was nice for sure, full carbon and built up with Rival, Spinergy wheels...
The LBS said I could demo the reps bike another day, and I was intrigued. The thing is, with BB30 and CDale crank the CAAD, even though its aluminum, is lighter than most carbon frame sets with cranks. Maybe the prices are higher here in Denver (economy not as bad as most places) because the CAAD frame set was cheaper than the Blue. You are right though, the Blue I saw is sweet indeed.

Nitro do you know Brian well? He has been nothing but nice to me. He helped me out with a fitting on my mtb at his old LBS, and he has been my go-to guy at the new LBS. Very knowledgeable and professional. Hope he does good this cyclocross season cause I guess he's been tearing it up on his mtb (W.O.R.S. series).

Here is a pic of the frame I ordered, finally found one on the Web. It also comes in a flat black, which looks pretty cool. The build pictured has an MSRP of $5,200!!! and I imagine it is sub 16lbs.

They went a little nuts with the component spec on that one. Here is the one that I have. Granted I bought just the frame/fork. The MSRP is around $3500 for this one.
