Nokon cables
Is using Nokon cables a bad idea for cross? Maybe mud getting in between the links?

I thought the same thing, but I ran with Nokons last year and they really didn't pick up much grime and the stuff washed off well.
Nokons have an inner nylon sheath that is between the cable and the links, this protects the cable and provides a barrier. I didn't notice any degradation of this sheath even after many washings.
A side note, dirty nokons look pretty cool imho when the mud contrasts the links.

some guy say they are noisy, some say they work.
i had them on the frontbrake, they worked.
but you can often read of proplems with liners and noise
on a cx-bike all cables have to be changed regulary, thats why i prefer usual shimanosystems(greased ones)

having ridden a few bikes with Nokon and as I mentioned the Yokozuna I have now, high quality housing/cables compress less and move more smoothly than standard housing which results in a firmer feel in the brakes and a nice crispness to shifting. Its not night and day compared to regular housing, but its noticable.
