Cyclocross and Gravelbiking (Recreational) This has to be the most physically intense sport ever invented. It's high speed bicycle racing on a short off road course or riding the off pavement rides on gravel like : "Unbound Gravel". We also have a dedicated Racing forum for the Cyclocross Hard Core Racers.

What front mech: 38/48t chainrings

Hi all,

I've just got a new frame, and need a 31.8 clamp top pull front mech suitable for using with 38/48 chainrings.

I tried an XTR top swing one I had around, and the inner plate hit the inner chainring when I tried to shift onto the big ring, so that's no good. Looking at the specs for bottom swing, it may well have the same problem as it states the minimum difference between chainring sizes is 12t.

What are other people out there using? Ideally, I'd like a triple capable mech, as I may put a tripl on the bike for touring sometime in the future. AFAIK, there's no problem with using a triple front mech on a double chainset, is there?
