Bent / Bulged braking surface - Am I ok?

I stupidly tried hopping up a curb the other day (small curve) and jumped too early. My front wheel cleared fine but the rear landed directly on the corner of the curb, and I heard the rim bottom out. Tire pressure was fine for a bit but the tube has a slow leak. However, after removing the tire and tube just now one side of the rim has a large bulge in it (it was bent a lot). I bent it back with a towel and pliers and burred up the braking surface a bit, but not more than I think I can sand. However, the brake surface is slightly concave near the seam between the rim and the "V" section ( I have velocity fusion rims). The rest of the rim is totally true (no problems in total bend of the rim), but the braking surface is still a bit fuddled.....

Am I ok or should I get a new rim? I ride this bike on both road and for cross, and Im scared that going fast on downhill sections of the road might be hazardous....although it is (thankfully) the rear rim.

you should be ok for a while. is the wheel still round? no flat spot. post a pic if you can.

It's probably not going to be okay. Straighten it as much as possible and then file/sand down the burrs. After that, it'll most likely still catch at that spot when you're braking and annoying you enough to replace the rim.

Wheel is still round, any ideas on how I can straighten the brake surface further? Im fairly confident in the strength of the wheel (minus a few slightly loose spokes ). I think I will load up a new tube soon and give it a whirl

I did something similar in a race to my Velocity Escape rim. There was a nice bulge that I c-clamped down as best as I could. It's not perfect but I've used it since in several races without any braking trouble. I wouldn't worry too much about it since like you said it's the rear wheel.
