Does anyone know if the Salsa Las Cruces 04disc frameset has attachment points for a rear rack? Im looking for a frameset that is disc compatable and has eyelets for a rear rack. I know the Airborne Carpe Diem does but its a bit pricey and I know redline does but the rear spacing is only 130mm and I want 135mm. This bike will not be used for racing, just all around commuting and some off road and would also like to do some light touring.

I own a Las Cruces, and it does not have eyeletes for a rack. However, I am considering a rack for touring, and these guys Old Man Mountain make one that mounts to the brake bosses, and rear axel. They have a great reputation, but I've not used their products yet.

I would absolutely recommend the Las Cruces scandium frame, though. It rides great, and looks fantastic to boot! Here's a pic of mine built up:

very nice bike. it is almost exactly the same frame as the kona major jake. identical parts and geomwtry, except that the kona has a squared top-tube.

Dual disc brakes? Does anyone need to stop that fast?

I guess it depends on what's ahead of you. :eek: Seriously, I went with discs for a few reasons. I know that I won't be able to race in UCI sanctioned cyclocross events (if I choose to, I can always swap out the brakes), but that's really the only downside from my perspective. Weight is not much of an issue, as I'm going to use this bike for touring, commuting, and as a training bike. I learned this year, that rim brakes are useless on a 45mph decent in the pouring rain. These brakes are POWERFUL, AND offer fantastic modulation. You would never know that they are discs from the feel @ the brake levers. :)

Good point. I didn't consider the rain thing. I don't have any experience with discs, but it seems logical to me they would be much better in the wet.

Which ones... BB5 or BB7 or BB Road?
What the difference btw BB (for mountain) and BB Road?

Any alternative mech disc brake other than Avid?
