Ok, so I'm going ahead with my new CX bike, as I have sold a few of my bikes, and my parents have said I could.


My frame will probably be a Soul Monk and a Stiffster carbon fork, as I am sponsored by them.

Brakes: I see some bad reviews of the Avids, althought I am a big fan of their disc and v brakes. I'm thinking of giving hte Shorty 4s a shot, since I get them cheap at cost. Maybe some Kool Stop pads?

Drivetrain: I'm using Campagnolo Centaur parts, 10 speed, derraleurls, shifters, chain, cogs and whatnot. Cane Creek cross levers on the tops of the bars.

Tires: I'm tihnking these really cool looking Clements, and if not, maybe the Conti Twister pros.

Wheels: I plan on using my Campy proton wheels for now, until I get enough money to lace some real cross wheels. I hear theese are pretty good for cross, and I'm only 140 lbs.

Bars/Stem: I have these road bars and stem from a Litespeed, I assum theyll work? Their like Dedas or something

Seatpost/Saddle: I plan on getting a Thomson elite and maybe a Terry saddle? Those look really comfortable, but hopefully I can get some advice here.


Cables? I was thinking Dura Ace since I get them pretty cheap, and that housing is pretty stiff

Pedals? I hear the Candy SLs work well? I personally like the look of the eggbeaters better, but Im open to opinions here, I may start with some basic SPDs for now

Am I missing anything? I have my first race in Novemer, the 21st in Highland Park, NJ, and I'm stoked. I will hopefully have this built before then and can get some riding. My budget is kind in the air as I'm in the process of selling a few of my bikes to fund this project. I started on road, and trasnfered to trials/mountain/dh, and kind like road, but wish there was a larger challenge other than hills, which is what cyclocross will hopefullly. Road cycling was intense, but CX seems more intense in a differnt way, which really appeals to me. I'm trying to keep the price under 800, which I think is possible without a new wheelset as of now, and getting stuff at cost through my shop and getting the frame/fork cheap.

Anyone else going to that race in NJ on the 21sth?

Check out if you need set back to get a good riding position. I have several Thomsons laying around because I found I needed a set back to get a better riding position.

I am going to go with Maxxis Worm Drive for tires. They look pretty nice and ruggedish. Good fork choise

let me know how that 10s holds up. i've been to scared to go to an even narrower chain as I'm always breaking my 9s one as it is.. plus that narrow cassette looks like its just asking to be filled to the brim with gunk.

I think you need campy housing and cables for campy shifters and whatnot. but I'm not certain.
