Cyclocross and Gravelbiking (Recreational) This has to be the most physically intense sport ever invented. It's high speed bicycle racing on a short off road course or riding the off pavement rides on gravel like : "Unbound Gravel". We also have a dedicated Racing forum for the Cyclocross Hard Core Racers.

Should your feet touch? Super stupid question needs answering

So I got my first cross bike today, it's a beater from the 90s with excellent period stuff on it, and I'm super excited. I assembled it, then sat on it and realized that my toes can't really touch the ground when the seat is at the right height. The standover seems fine, it's definitely not womens geometry (of which I am one), but the measurements transfered fine from my road bike.

I guess I imagined that a CX bike's seat height would be slightly lower? Is that just my imagination? Is that why I should expect to fall down so much this season?

Thanks in advance!

Yeah, should fit similarly to your road bike although it may be more upright.

Some cross bikes have a higher BB height then road bikes. This results in sitting higher off the ground even though the saddle to pedal distance is the same.

As for falling, even the pros fall. It's part of the game. Embrace it and don't be afraid of looking like a fool.

If you can't touch the ground when you sit on it, then it's not at the right right. You should at least be able to keep on the bike with your toes. Every bike fits differently.

I wouldn't worry about it if the standover is OK and the fit otherwise seems good.
