toe spikes?
are toe spikes a significant factor if absent in a shoe that works for me? would I use them (on average) once per season?

If the shoe fits, wear it. You'll do just fine without toe spikes. I wouldn't purchase new shoes just to get the spikes, unless you need new shoes for other reasons.

It depends on your courses. Around here, muddy run-ups are a very common feature. Other places, maybe not.

You can always just screw a couple bolts in to keep the muck from fouling the threads ,
until you need to screw the cleats in..
Soccer shoe cleats work too, doesn't have to be the sharp steel ones .
