Cyclocross and Gravelbiking (Recreational) This has to be the most physically intense sport ever invented. It's high speed bicycle racing on a short off road course or riding the off pavement rides on gravel like : "Unbound Gravel". We also have a dedicated Racing forum for the Cyclocross Hard Core Racers.

Why the " cx dismount " on the street ?

Staring to bother me ... in front of the coffee shop or bike shop, Why ? In an actual race it makes sence ... on the street ? C'mon .

LMAO... "Starting to bother" you********************??

Why?

Have you never skidded to a stop on a coaster brake just for fun? Never come to a stop using the kicktail of your skateboard? Never posed like Jordan after tossing a wad of paper into the garbage can from across the room? Never used movie lingo whle playing Cops & robbers?

The attempt to treat your hobby like a sacred mission is even funnier... "In an actual race it makes sense"... does racing prize money make up the bulk of your income? If not, the actual race itself makes no more or less sense than a CX dismount in front of Starbucks.

Because it's faster than coming to a completely stop and slowly dismounting.

Time is money, yo.

I do it a lot in August and September just to start getting used to it again, but by this time of year I've mostly stopped. Sometimes I do it just for fun.

I do it all the time while commuting to and from school. It's faster, saves brake pads, and good practice for actual racing. Same with remounts.

I roll the CX dismount into the back door at work EVERY DAY.

WHY?

Beats me, it just feels right.

I am waiting for a network to start a new series with bike cops that race CX on the weekends.
The 'perp' tries to shake the pursuit by running up some stairs, only to find that the bike cop dismounts, hammers the "run up" and remounts before riding him down. "PDX Blue"

Oh, and I by the way... I think too much...about dumb stuff...mostly...

I used this dismount years before I'd even heard of CX. It's fun and efficient. Go yell at the kids to get off your lawn and leave us alone, old man!

I do it because it's actually less cumbersome than coming to a complete stop and then trying to cock my leg over the saddle while the other one is on the floor. Doing it on the cervelo bike my stable leg is *on the pedal* which means it's higher up and easier for the other leg to swing over the seat. Plus the bike is more stable as its moving.

Gotta show all the hot baristas/hipster at the coffee shop how cool you are, duuuhhhhh!

But really I've been dismounting like this for years, before I started racing and was just commuting, it's just as easy as a normal dismount and it's faster.

The answer to most all questions about cx - tradition.

even when it doesn't really make sense, it is still the right answer.

I don't even do that in races much.

I realized that I go in with both hands on the bars and and grab the top tube as my feet hit the ground. I haven't blown it at too many barriers.

Being tall doesn't hurt. Oh, and being slow, mire time to recover if I blow it.

does this qualify as a cx dismount, or at least bother the op?
