Cyclocross and Gravelbiking (Recreational) This has to be the most physically intense sport ever invented. It's high speed bicycle racing on a short off road course or riding the off pavement rides on gravel like : "Unbround Gravel". We also have a dedicated Racing forum for the Cyclocross Hard Core Racers.

BEST 2011 BD SS CYCLOCROSS BIKE: Motobecane Fantom Uno or Mercier Kilo WT

If you hate BD or are generally easily irratible, please don't bother responding.

I have done searches and cannot find a direct comparison between these two models currently available.

I am currently in the market for a good (relatively) singlespeed CX bicycle.

I am relatively new to cycling and appreciate other suggestions (including geared bicycles).

That said -
What is the better bike? Which includes better components for the price?

Are these going to work well for me? (hard riding/not for winning CX races)

I'm 6' with a 32" inseam and believe I'd be a 56cm or 58cm.

Thanks for your help!

well since the kilo doesn't have cantilever brakes, there's your answer

The Kilo will be fine for "not winning CX races" because it has no Cantilever brakes so maybe that's the one that best suits your needs.

you are also looking at quite a difference in gearing, unless you plan on swapping rings, may be something to consider

I've not ridden either bike, but I really like the tektro 556 long reach caliper brakes on the Kilo. They've got *tons* of clearance for big tires, mud, fenders, whatever. I would race them in a muddy CX race without hesitation. More importantly, I think they make an excellent all round brake once you swap in some good brakepads. They perform better than any cantilevers I have used-way better.

The Sugino crank on the kilo is also a big step up from the FSA crank on the FC, IMO.

I'd go with the Kilo, but they both look pretty solid to be honest.

Enjoy whichever you decide to buy.

Given both are single speed , not much components in them .
one is street / road, the other you can join in the single speed cross races with.
