Never heard of that website and don't know about customer service. That is a great deal for that bike.

I don't know the website, but got mine (2008, Ultegra, 105, FSA) closeout for $425 early 2009 from an LBS that advertised pick up only on eBay. Apparently, there is a a lot of margin in selling Fujis. Personally, I'm glad I didn't pay more, .. I came to the conclusion that a Fuji bike is little different from what you can find on Bikedirect. Assuming you like the geometry and components, go for it. Use a credit card you can trust to make a charge-back if it's not what you expect.

There was a thread here, a week or so ago, with several people who had ordered from them, waited, never got the bikes, finally got there money back. Time period from payment to refund was a little over a month if recall correctly.

Start another thread with "Has anyone dealt with departmentofgoods.com."

departmentofgoods, if I am not mistaken, is owned by Backcountry.com, who owns Competitive Cyclist (bonktown, steepandcheap, etc).

I have one of the Fuji bikes - it was my road bike till I bought a road bike in October. I have raced it, and use it for daily commuting. Got it for $849 last April from Performance Bike, with a 20% rebate on top of that. For $600, it is a great deal. Truly wish I had the money free right now, I would get another and use it for CX and leave the one that is dressed up for commuting as my commuter bike.

I used MTBs throughout high school and college as commuter bikes and recently decided to get a cyclocross bike. I checked out a few CX bikes in my LBSs and never found anything I liked within my budget. I stumbled upon the Department of Goods deal on the 2010 Fuji Cross Comp and decided that it was a good enough deal to risk having to waste $50 to return it if I didn't like it.

Their customer service is rather passive and leaves something to be desired, as my order went through ASAP and the charge appeared on my credit card in 48 hours, but after my order status changed to 'shipping' I never received any tracking info. I emailed them to inquire about my order status, they said they were back-logged due to the holidays, then I received tracking info the next day (a full week after I placed my order). My bike arrived in great condition, packaged very well 48 hours after I received the tracking info.

All in all, not an ideal experience, but everything worked out okay in the end. It's being assembled now, and I'll post more when I get to ride it next week. This is my first bike with drops, so it'll be an adventure!

I have one of the bikes, bought mine from Performance. If your's has no unusual issues, you will love the bike. I have upgraded for road use to a nicer road bike, but my Fuji is my commuter, and hopefully will be back into full 'cross mode by summer.

I don't know about the website, but Fuji always blows out existing inventory at the end of the model year. Bonktown was selling the heck out of these just a month ago.

Just got back home after traveling for the holidays and picked up my built bike. While I have to admit it is my first non-MTB rig, I must say the 2010 Fuji Cross Comp exceeds my expectations. Even with rather heavy pedals and two full water bottles it came in at 25 lbs and feels light as a feather because it is actually very well-balanced (for cross shouldering I can only assume...?). The shop even said they were impressed with the partial build it came with right out of the box, FWIW. The cantis seemed well-tuned thus far, too.

All in all:

$599 bike + $75 build/tune with minor fitting + $70 pedals = a great purchase in the end, even with the minor awkward CS from Dept of Goods.

The shop had various 2012 Specialized cross bikes on display, all starting >$1100, and after checking them out for fun I'm feeling really good about my investment. I bought pedals and other accessories (some extras for the fiance too) from the LBS to hopefully convey some sort of support. Can't wait to hit the trail this Saturday.

From an owner of one of these fine steeds, you will not be disappointed.
