Cyclocross and Gravelbiking (Recreational) This has to be the most physically intense sport ever invented. It's high speed bicycle racing on a short off road course or riding the off pavement rides on gravel like :The Dirty Kanza". We also have a dedicated Racing forum for the Cyclocross Hard Core Racers.

Cross shoe question. Big or small?

If you had only two options for buying cleated shoe sizes, would you prefer to have them on the small side (snug) or the big side (loose)? I'm thinking the snug side would eventually stretch out to your size and the big side could be fixed by wearing multiple or thicker socks.

So which side do you walk on? Small or big?

It depends on which foot it's on. I'm righty loosey / lefty tighty.

Make sure your toes aren't hitting the front of the shoes when you're squatting on the balls of your feet. That's a sure recipe for problems. Ask your shoe salesman if you have questions about your fit. But make sure whether it's buckles or thicker socks that the shoe is taught on your foot. Loose shoes are a pain to pedal in.

Will the shoe come off, running in the Mud seems an important criteria..

you did not post in the Commuting or Touring section,
so there is the course conditions to consider , in the races..

SiDi shoes come in a bunch of half sizes in the Mid sizes.
something should fit.

Of course Human feet are not identical size on the same person,
as the above post says.

Plus you're going to want warm weather shoes for early season and cold weather shoes for late season.
