Cyclocross and Gravelbiking (Recreational) This has to be the most physically intense sport ever invented. It's high speed bicycle racing on a short off road course or riding the off pavement rides on gravel like : "Unbound Gravel". We also have a dedicated Racing forum for the Cyclocross Hard Core Racers.

Steel cyclocross framesets other than Cross-Check

Who else makes a quality steel cyclocross bike, available as a frameset, other than Surly?

Don't the Soma Double Cross and Surly Cross Check have identical frame geometry?

seemed to be the case when I was comparing bikes for my cross bike purchase, but then I only looked at the one size for me, not the full ranges...

No, the Soma has a sloping top tube and a taller headtube. The Cross Check has a horizontal toptube and a shorter headtube length.

When you compare the seat and head angles, virtual top tube, and head tubes, they come up very similar, and I think the Surly is even a hair taller (but, like, less than one spacer's worth).

For Norcal, add Sycip, Soulcraft, Caletti, RockLobster to that list.

Lemond used to have a steel model cx frame.

I just saw this on biketiresdirect.com: Handsome Devil Looks like a Cross Check copy.

Boy, the more I look at it, the more I like the All-City Nature Boy. I just wish I could get a frameset in black instead of that hideous lime yellow.

And Soulcraft's predecessor, Salsa Cycles in Petaluma. The Original La Cruz is one heck of a CX bike... I have a 52cm.

Cantilever brake mounts alone do not make a bike a cyclocross bike. The devil's specs include long chainstays, steep headtube angle and resulting short fork trail that tell me it is best suited for use as a touring/commuter bike, not a CX racer.

Nice. I'm adding that to my list. In fact, it may have just leap-frogged the Nature Boy due to its price and versatility.

Since when was Cross-Check a CX racer?

I've commuted and raced gravel road on my Kaffenback, not to twitchy for commuting and quick enough for gravel racing.
