USAC tire width?

Going to do my first race on the 14th. Flyer says that USAC rules apply...does USAC have the same tire width restriction as the UCI? I looked through Ch5 in the rulebook, but couldn't find mention.

Trying to avoid buying new tires.

USAC does not have a restriction on tire size. There are some overzealous promoters out there who (wrongfully) apply some of the UCI restrictions, but that's rare. In general, promoters don't want to turn away racers, unless they are actually doling out UCI points.

Those rules only matter for the Pro race anyways. You'll see mtn bikes in Cat4 races.

Thanks. I have 38s on there right now.

Mostly I just didn't feel like buying new tires at the moment.

Depends on the race. At StarCrossed last year they were checking tires in the Cat-4 35+. Yeah, a judge came through and jigged tires for the beer-league old guys' race.
All I could think was, "Seriously? There isn't even a t-shirt up for grabs as a prize in this race."

Gear wise, it is a free for all in the Cat 4 races. I have seen just about everything in a race, pugsleys, 29ers, DH mountain bikes, BMX. The only thing they are strict about are bar ends. I have never seen it, but I imagine you could show up on a unicycle and they would just shrug and heckle you like everybody else.

That's dumb. If you want to grow the sport you need to make it easy for anyone to race. Cat3 & up would be fine.

Pretty hardcore, but not uncommon. We get a fair bit of that in Colorado too, especially at States.
