Performance's Scattante X340
Performance has a Scattante X340 for only $500 as a black friday deal. Anyone have any experience with these bikes? Already I see the brakes are rubbish, I think they are onyx. Might buy one for myself for commuting trips.

Also, happy turkey day!

Looks like low end mix 'n' match generics for the brakes, wheels, bottom bracket, cranks, stem, bars, saddle, and post so I can't speak to the quality there.
For the frame/fork, their house brand isn't too shabby. I ride with a couple roadies on Scattante frames and they haven't had any issues, plus one of my teammates raced her 2nd season this year on a Scattante XRL 'cross frame/fork.

Race it, break it and then get something else or another one,
don't let the flaunters of their Bike jewelry, peer pressure,
keep you from getting out on the course . have fun.

If you're budget is maxed out at $500, then this looks like a good deal. However, if your budget is $900-$1000 (the "list" on the X340 is shown to be $999 although I doubt it ever sells at that) and are now thinking you can save $500, I think you should spend closer to your budget. There are a number of better bikes (based on components) in the $800-$1000 range.
