CAADX vs Jake the Snake - flip a coin?
CAADX vs Jake the Snake... both fit the intentions: cyclocross (for fun, not racing) and commuting (12-18 miles, fender option). Color schemes for both bikes are okay.
Flip a coin or select the LBS and buy whichever they carry? I already own a Cannondale, so I know one the stores well.

if you've already got a cannondale why don't you shake it up with a kona?
what's weird about both bikes is that (at least the 2012 models) they both have downtube cable routing. for 2013, i think the jake the snake went to internal downtube routing, but looking at the 2013 CAADX, it still has exposed downtube routing. so i guess it somewhat depends on if you're looking at the 2012s or '13s.

Did you do any test rides to see which one fits you best?

If they have a size up or down ride that. You'll still get a sense of how the bikes shift, brake, etc... and general ride quality. If the shops are worth their salt they should be willing to make some adjustments like swapping out a stem for a test ride.

The Kona Jake The Snake is a bike that just gets better and better with each new model year. I have a 2010 Jake The Snake and its still an amazing bike to ride! They are highly sought after and the local Kona dealer in Edmonton gets calls from across Canada by people wanting to buy a Jake The Snake. And they don't last long on the resale market either; people want them that bad!
