Canti -> Mini-V. What parts will I need?

Cyclocross and Gravelbiking (Recreational) This has to be the most physically intense sport ever invented. It's high speed bicycle racing on a short off road course or riding the off pavement rides on gravel like : "Unbound Gravel". Canti -> Mini-V. What parts will I need?

I commute on my 2008 Kona Major Jake. It has the carbon Easton EC90X fork, and when paired with Shorty4 cantis it's offers a scary amount of judder.

I've done my homework, and it sounds like a pair of Tektro Mini-V's have helped people with their judder while also adding a slight increase to brake performance.

Two questions, but first I wanted to say that I use the bike for two things: commuting to work on some cushy 32 tires, and then I swap them out about once a month for 25's for weekend distance riding.

With that:

-Do I need the adjustable noodles that I've heard people mention? I'm new to biking and think I get what they do, but I'm not sure if I need it when regarding my specific use.

-Should I get the 926A or the RX5? In other words, which one will better fit the above-mentioned range of tire sizes?

These are the only ones I've had experience with and they are awesome. pretty much any tire size ur rim will fit, and the barrel adjuster is on the noodle. Really light weight too.

Thanks - I've definitely come across those in my research, and they're unfortunately out of the price range.

tektro has some cheap ones that are on some fitness bikes
trp(tektro racing) has some they make, that are nicer, def more money ...

you'll need longer housing for sure, poss new cables as well ...

I have the same fork on 2 bikes and have switched to the TRP mini V's with outstanding results. Be sure to match the brake to your brake levers. SRAM/Campy/Older Shimano use the 8.4cm version and modern Shimano needs 9cm ones. It matters. You should recable the brakes but you can get away with extending the housing by adding a barrel adjuster.

Adjustable noodles go with drop bar brake levers, but if you use interruptor levers,
their adjuster may be sufficient.

straight bar levers come with adjusters...

But its pretty straightforward, to adjust them with the cable clamp bolt itself.

Definitely an adjustable noodle on the 926. It will be the only way you can take your wheels off if you ever need to without tearing things apart. And that means you got to readjust the noodle after backing it out. Don't know why they didn't make one of those quick releases on these brakes. I just installed mine so I haven't really had a chance to test them out other than a quick little 1-2 mile ride. They do have alot of stopping power, but you really need to make sure your wheel is pretty freaking true for all to be working as spec'd. For example have your brake blocks within 1mm from the rim.

You can and should read up the installation manual before buying these that way you got a good idea on these. It's really pretty short and easy. I discovered that I should have had 15mm bolts included in the order, but I only got 25mm bolts. Which I couldn't use. Will have to follow up now with Tektro and see if they can send me some.

I had a thread about his here.

You only need adjusters to remove the wheel if you're in the bad habit of too tight, auto-inspired lever setup.

I didn't need anything special; just the brakes, cables and housing, and better pads than the stock ones.

Air is a simple QR . let it out to pull wheel , install first then pump it up to re fit. .

With 85mm arms I can run my pads 3mm or more from the rims and lock the brake just shy of the lever bottoming out. With 3mm spacing, there's plenty of room to unhitch the noodle for wheel removal.

It's silly to set brakes up to have rim engagement with the barest amount of lever travel. In fact, it compromises your braking by never allowing you to get your hands in their most powerful position around the levers. Fundamentally, it's your hands that stop the bike, since they power the brakes. Compromising the power source to your brakes is not smart.

Run TRP CX8.4s with Ultegra 6700 levers on my C`dale Super X and there fantastic!!!

Very easy removing the wheels shod with 35mm panaracer cindercross ....

I looked into the CX 8.4s, but the 926 are laughably cheap for what amounts to identical function with a less flashy finish. Now if I could only find a good deal on the hardware. $28 per Shimano inline adjuster is too much.

Hey Jiggle,

I got mine at ebikestop, but you may find it cheaper else where. Here's a good start. Don't forget your adjustable noodle.

I only received the 25mm as well. I just reused the 15mm that were being used on my existing cantis.

Though the Shimano SM-CB90 is far easier to deal with than the adjustable noodle. The QR is invaluable if you're racing CX at all.
