Cyclocross and Gravelbiking (Recreational) This has to be the most physically intense sport ever invented. It's high speed bicycle racing on a short off road course or riding the off pavement rides on gravel like : "Unbound Gravel". We also have a dedicated Racing forum for the Cyclocross Hard Core Racers.

Big question...

Big question...

I bought a 2010 specialized Tricross about a year ago. I started commuting home from work 20 miles and changed the tires to some roubaix tires. Bike is amazing for riding home with minimal dirt. I ride about 50-75 miles a week in the evenings on paved paths to stay in shape. I ride with a friend who rides his specialized BMX bike, he unwisely over pressurizes his tires to go faster. I enjoy watching him go on some the dirt hills and paths while I wait on the pavement. Should a CX bike be able to keep up or surpass a BMX bike in the dirt?

I am thinking about buying another bike, maybe a BMX or a road bike.. If I buy a full dedicated road bike I can bring my 2010 CX back to a true CX bike.. Then I guess i can try to do everything he can do on dirt with my current 2010 CX?

I am wondering if I fully do not know what a CX bike can do since I ride 99% of the time on pavement with mine..

Can a CX do up and downhill on dirt paths? Gravel? Etc..

I can ride a wide range of trails on my CX bikes. Descending super steep trails on slippery earth and gravel is the only real limitation while using a semi-slick Cyclocross tire.

I would try your bike with good semi-slick tires while condition are bone dry. These tires work well both on road and on trail;
