Cyclocross and Gravelbiking (Recreational) This has to be the most physically intense sport ever invented. It's high speed bicycle racing on a short off road course or riding the off pavement rides on gravel like : "Unbound Gravel". We also have a dedicated Racing forum for the Cyclocross Hard Core Racers.

Have $5k, Should I go Titanium or stay with Carbon?

Greetings. I finally have the chance to change my 4 year old Felt (F2) and I want to move to a CX bike. I dont ride in competitions but I ride 3-4 times a week (road) and commonly find my self in not so good pavement/gravel conditions where I loose a lot of traction and always fear for my frame breaking, plus Im big, 6'3" (1.91cm) 225lb (100kg) and having disc braking power can be good. Because of this fear I am thinking of going Titanium, a Litespeed CX with ENVE carbon fork to be exact.
What are your thoughts on this? Any recommendations? Thanks!

Go Ti for something unusual on the road. I would stick with a road frame and spec tires in the 25-28 mm ranges. I recently switched from 23 mm to 25 mm on both my road bikes. Made a much bigger difference when I ride on gravel, dirt or crappy pavement.

I installed Zaffiro Rubino Pros, still run 105 psi. Rides better, handles as well or better than the 23s and I have not lost any speed.

I am not a light weight either, 5'10" and 198 lbs.

Good luck! Nice budget to have for a new bike!
