Cyclocross and Gravelbiking (Recreational) This has to be the most physically intense sport ever invented. water bottle protection

So, when I was deployed to the desert we would put condoms on our M4s to keep dust out of the barrels.

Naturally I thought this would be a good way to keep my water bottles dust free on gravel rides, but I was planning on participating in an organized ride soon with lots of people and I'm wondering if some might find that to be in poor taste.

Yea or nay?

Do it. Serves as a conversation starter, and anyone too put off by it isn't going to be much fun anyway, are they?

I just use my Camelbak when I know it's going to be potentially grimy hydration conditions.

Somebody used to make bike water bottles with a hinged plastic dome over the cap. That would solve the problem elegantly and reusably.
