SSCX wheelset?

Folks,
Looking for recomendations for a rim brake SSCX wheelset. Not looking to build, just something I can order and have arrive at the house in a week. Hoops are going on a cross check. It's a training bike, pub crawl, light trail machine. I've balooned up to 220lbs so needs to hold my girth .

What works for you guys?

If you have a geared wheelset, you can just get a single cog and spacers. That's what I use for SSCX racing. Unless you want to do fixed gear riding there's really no reason to put a singlespeed-specific wheelset on a bike with 130/132.5/135 spacing.

+1 ... and it's a lot easier to get your chainline right by rearranging spacers on the hub. Fact is, most dedicated SS rear hubs won't even have the right spacing and would need an axle swap and spacers to fit your CC.

For mounting CX tires, I'd look at wheelsets built on a 23+ mm rim like the Velocity A23, HED Belguim+, Pacenti SL23, etc. Stay away from low spoke counts (anything under 28) and you should be fine. Prices range from low $200s to $800+ depending on what you want for hubs and spokes.

This is the cheapest/easiest option unless you want to try to go super nice but sounds like you just want something that works.

I have a cog and spacers on a cassette freehub on my road SS. I use a Forte tensioner, too, as I run it with a quick release. Very easy to get the chainline perfect and I have quite a few miles on that setup since building it in 2011.

I second getting some stout 32-spoke wheels. Low speed offroad climbs when you're really pushing the pedals will pop spokes with a quickness. I did that today in the woods on my geared CX bike (with 30mm Shimano R500 wheels and me at 180 lbs)
