I picked mine up for half price back in April, let me tell you, it's an awesome bike. Of course my perspective is from someone who rode and raced a Cross Check with downtube shifters, square taper bb, and sucky canti brakes for years. While the Surly had a lot of character and is the king of versatility, the CAADX is a heat seeking missile by comparison. The al frame is rigid and light, the formed tubes make it comfortable for shouldering during CX races and the shifters and brakes are both precise and powerful. The self extracting crank arm makes for easy servicing and the bottom bracket is very rigid. The brakes are very powerful and easy to modulate; hydraulic is definitely preferable to the mechanicals that I have on my mountain bike. The geometry is great, your'e in a head's up position while your center of mass is much more centered in the frame than bikes without the sloping top tube geometry. That said, the front end feels high, but front end grip and handling are sharp. I've raced mine in several CX, monster cross, and gravel grinders, it's been a real pleasure and has held up fairly well (I'm a clyde). The brake pads grind and squeal, but they'll be replaced at the end of the season, and I managed to brake the saddle during a training ride. The rr. wheel was built with the wrong spokes and several popped before I had the wheel totally rebuilt. Since then they've held up to considerable abuse just fine. In addition, the large chainring seems fairly flexy and cheap, but the Cannondale spec components have, otherwise, been good. I could definitely see a hub/wheel upgrade in the future and, maybe, new chainrings, but otherwise this bike has been a solid performer right out of the box. If you get a deal I would not hesitate to buy it.
