Muddy Wheels at Dieppe, NB, Canada. It was my first race ever on a bicycle - finished first in "C" category (first timers Cat)
Gorgeous night - 22-23 degrees. Great mixture of slow, tight, technical terrain with some flat out gravel track. Nasty hill with a barrier that forced a foot climb - ouch. http://a6.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphot...66219822_n.jpg http://a1.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphot...49844509_n.jpg http://a5.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphot...24918794_n.jpg http://a3.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphot...99827288_n.jpg http://a2.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphot...28973843_n.jpg |

DCCX-V. October 23 @ the Armed Forces Retirement Home in Northwest Washington, DC.
Three cheers for DCMTB for putting on a great event. This was my second race ever and first one this year. Kudos to my girlfriend for taking pictures that don't show the complete and total pain & exhaustion that my lungs are going through. http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6031/...ee8dd1dd4d.jpg http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6236/...4bec8e827a.jpg And a picture of the tandem race in which I did not compete. http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6239/...71fe639653.jpg |

Yay Halloween!
Unfortunately, there was a pretty poor costume turnout at the race I did. I was expecting to have a relatively lame costume, but like 90% of the people there raced in their usual kit. Here's my weak effort: http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6215/...931061d6_z.jpg http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6222/...6d1b388b_z.jpg I really should have raced on my Cross Check. On the other hand, the course was excellent. Here are a few pics I took after I finished my race. https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-p...0/IMG_0081.JPG https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-U...0/IMG_0101.JPG https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-V...0/IMG_0084.JPG https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-A...0/IMG_0090.JPG https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-W...0/IMG_0066.JPG |
I'm still having nightmares about that run up...
|
Yeah, memories of that run up have me choosing Apple Core Cross over Edgefield this Saturday. I need something flat.
A short steep run-up like you get at Barton is more fun -- steep enough that you definitely have to run it, but short enough that you dig in and sprint up the hill. |
Here are some shots from a race a week ago, Syracross at Highland Forest just outside of Syracuse, NY. It was probably about 32* out and snow was still on the ground, not cold enough to freeze the mud though and there was plenty of it.

What's up with the crowd at that race? I woman just rides buy dressed up as a bumble bee and they all look bored to death. Were the other riders' costumes so much better that yours was considered mundane?

I love this one... like the kid just passed them and he's hammering away to gap them.
The mixing of juniors and adults makes for some fun pictures. This is my personal favorite, from Alpenrose in 2009: http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2568/...c40_z.jpg?zz=1 |
