I have the not-quite-as-extreme Salsa Bell Lap bars. They're nice, I don't know that it's a huge win over normal road bars but it does seem a little easier to slide down into the drops from the tops. Which helps when you're tired and lazy near the end of a race.

Great for being in the drops and not hitting your forearms on the tops. I've not found the need, personally, but I know a few guys in NCCX who run them (mostly not as extreme as those).

Yeah, the Salsa Bell Laps look nice, but having the brifters at an angle like that looks pretty awkward. I run a Campy drivetrain as well, and I think it would be hard to get to the 'thumb-button'.
I run the Ritchey Biomax bars, which I really like for cx. The tops are angled back slightly, and they have a pretty shallow reach/drop. No outward angling on the drops though.

Bell Lap angle is not nearly as extreme as the one in the bars shown in the photo. I don't know what those are, but I agree it looks pretty extreme and would probably take some getting used to.

it's the WTB mountain road drop. They are about the same as the midge, except the ends of the drop have been extended.
shimano brifters work great on them, and they are probably the most comfortable and versatile bars I own (can't speak to campy, though). much more so than the ritchey biomax. Haven't tried the salsa bell laps.
Not only do they offer comfort in letting your hand rest a natural angle, but their width makes for awesome leverage in sprinting or crap conditions.
personally I think they look ugly, but who cares, they are the bars that keep on giving. Their flare also protects brifters somewhat when you stack.

Hahaha, suckers. It was 75 degrees and brilliantly sunny yesterday for our series finale in NC. The most dangerous thing out there was the dust if you were following someone closely

Click on "Latest Photos -- All the latest racing pictures" (on the right, last entry in the "Features" column).
Second (or so) race listed is "SoCal Prestige #9" -- click on that.
Check out the first picture (called "This rider goes for the traditional cyclocross dismount!").
Yes, it hurt.

Reflections of my freshman season in warm dusty Georgia...
"Dude, where's my bike?"

Enjoying a long walk on the beach

Running with a perfectly good bike

Sure doubling up is a great idea
