dumb bored single speed strategy idea
forgive me, i am at work and bored to death
What do you think about swapping between bikes with different gearing during a race? Do you think it would make any difference in your overall performance? Like could you start the race on a bike with larger gearing and then perhaps switch to your pit bike with slightly smaller gearing as you tired a bit? |
Pit bike Gearing
Due to costs my pit and racing bikes are radically different. My start bike is a Ridley with Campy 10 speed dual chain ring 48 / 34, 12 -25. My pit bike is a Kona Jake with Shimano single 42 12/25. I find that I'd much rather have the exact same gearing. I've "learned" the course with one set-up and would prefer to stay with that gearing. I have done races with the Kona as the start bike and the Ridely as the Pit bike. I still would have prefered to stay on the same gearing even thought the Ridely has an Easier option gearing. The switch back and forth between Campy and Shimano is no problem. Both have advatages and Disadvatanges.

Ahh SS
Sorry, I read the post without reading the title. I do race SS also and I think the logic is the same. I want the same gearing and same set-up through out the race. Most times I get stronger and am able to race faster due to the course knowledge gained in the first laps.
