Splain UCI Points to Me

Looking at a National CX schedule I see Category 1 and 2 UCI races. There are also USGP events.
Do the 1's just get more points?
Is the USGP it's own little circuit?
Do any of these points translate to world ranking kinda stuff?
It befuddles me - where's the pro racing for dummies?

UCI C1 races pay points 15 deep, UCI C2 pay 10 deep.

But you probably don't need to worry about it.

There's a points schedule on p26 of the UCI cross rules:

Class 1 events get more points than class 2.

USGP is a series of cyclocross races, just like the Superprestige and the Gazet van Antwerpen. So you can earn UCI points and series points at the same time.

I believe (?) that UCI points determine staging for all UCI races, including World Cups and the World Championships. But it's more prestigious to win the World Cup points championship than the UCI points championship, because the World Cup is an international series and each World Cup event has a stacked field.

Actually this isn't the case. Because the World cups only allow a certain number of riders per country based on UCI ranking you don't have as many Belgians racing and stacking the top of the results sheet like you would at a GVA or Super Prestige race. Guys who regulary finish in the top 15 of GVA an SP races like Rob Peeters,Sven Vanthourenhout, Wilant van Gils and Tom Van den Bosch don't even get to race World Cups. That's the problem with being from such a dominate cross country.

That's a good point. But I still think winning World Cup is second most prestigious title (after World Championships).

Agreed.

Thanks, that makes the mud clearer.
Nitro, you must know me; but not well enough. Ain't no probably about me not needing to worry about the points - it's a definite!
