Mid-Maryland Coaching and Mike Birner are putting on free cross clinics on Sunday 8/29 and 9/5, both days starting at 8:30am. Basic instruction on various techniques needed to enjoy cross and all the elements you might encounter in a race. Instruction is followed by hot laps for practice at speed. Location is Folly Quarter Middle School (13500 Triadelphia Road, Ellicott City, MD 21042).

I don't think this is really Ellicott City, but I'm pasting the info as I was given it.

From's website:

Yes, that's plural! Plenty of September opportunities to get your 'cross on in the metro area:
Wednesdays offer the classic KCOI/Boulevard "How To" developed by Mike Berning and crew at Herman Laird Park in Shawnee. Included is one Women Only Night.
Tuesdays in Lawrence, Jef Bishop teaches cyclocross fundamentals at a great new venue.
Saturday Sept. 11th, Source Endurance hosts an intensive One-Day, slightly more advanced course. Also at Herman Laird Park in Shawnee. Click here for details.
Watch for North of the River classes too.

Don't know if it's an organized practice or just some guys getting tpogether - but on Thursday of this week at lunch crossing Trabuco in Lake Forest, CA I saw three guys on CX bikes.
They were riding on the Serrano Creek Trail, which is my commute route when I ride.
Likely suspects for the group are from Shimano which has a facility across the RR tracks from my work; or maybe from Felt HQ which is also nearby,
Both spots are less than 2 miles from where I spotted these guys. Couldn't make out bike brands to narrow it done either.
I think it might be the same crew I've seen on MTB's in the summer.
