newbie looking for races - DC area

Where are the best places to find listings of races? I have been poking around the net but have only found a few in the DC area. Yet it sounds as if there are a lot of less formal, amateur cyclocross races springing up. Hoping to do my first race this year. I love the idea that cyclocross is very inclusive and encourages riders of all levels to give it a try. I have been road riding for a few years but look forward to the thrill and adventure of a race.

Are races mostly in the fall, or year round?

If this info has already been posted, please link me - could not find it. Thanks.

Races are pretty much only in the fall, starting late Aug. There are two major series in your area MABRA (mabracross.org) & MAC (midatlanticcross.com). I don't think either updated their race calendar for upcoming season, but you can get a general feel for when races are. I think there's another MABRA minor series starting, aimed at the CAT 2 & lower crowd.

There's plenty of racing in the are. I'm from Baltimore & had 18 races last season.

There are races just about every weekend starting at the end of August. You can race just about every Sat and Sun if you're willing to drive an hour or a little more.

Also, keep an eye out for practices and clinics starting near the end of July and early August.

Cross racing is indeed inclusive and fun. It's one of those rare things that you can totally suck at and have a blast anyways.

you can chose the rookie race and/or the cat 4 (beginner ) race , even the masters 3/4 if you are old enough.

Porca vacca! that was fun

Tacchino was a blast and I have been thinking about riding cyclocross since yesterday at 9am when I finished my first race... I was the dead last starter in a field of 117 for the beginners and there were a lot of non-beginners in the race but no matter, it was fun, even panting up Hup-Hup Hill. Need to get to a clinic though. See you at the next one.
