Biking in and around Pickering and Mississauga

Hi

I will be around Toronto next week, with first half in Pickering and second in Mississauga. Unfortunately I am not carrying my bike. So, what are the recommended shops for bike rentals in Pickering and Mississauga? And secondly, any good routes (60-100K) around those two regions that I can ride?

Thanks!

You could always try bikeshare. Not great for 100k rides, but they are available everywhere. I do see people on rented bikes but I have no idea where they get them from. Could try Sweetpete's, bike zone, skiis and bikes. One of those places if they don't rent, would be able to point you in the right direction

For routes just hit up the waterfront trail. It runs east and west as far as you can pedal. You could also ride to niagara falls, and then take the go train back to toronto.

Can't help you with rentals or rides around Pickering, but if you don't mind riding with a couple of old slow guys, you would be welcome to tag along on our Thursday morning ride from Oakville to Milton and back. We generally do 45 to 50 km with a stop at Tim Horton's for refreshment mid way.
If you are in the 5'7 to 5'10 range, I could loan you a bike to ride, although if you use anything other than SPDs or platforms, you would need to bring your pedals.

Thanks! The waterfront trail looks quite scenic. If i get to do only one ride, I will probably do that trail then.

Thanks for your offer, Dan. This won't be the first time when it comes to bikes that I wish I was not this abnormally tall at 6' 3". Also, Thursday may not work for me due to other family commitments, but I really appreciate your offer!

Yeah, I'm afraid any bike I could loan you would be too small.
Anyway, if you do get ahold of a bike and want to hook up for a ride west of Mississauga, let me know. If I'm available, I could go part way with you and help with route guidance.

Thanks for checking, Dan
Unfortunately the one day that i had free for bike ride was rained out. But I have bookmarked the Great Lakes Waterfront trail for my next trip to Canada, whenever that happens.
