Camping or wild camping between Moncton NB and Montreal

Writing on behalf of a friend. Any suggestions for inexpensive campgrounds or is it advisable to wild camp for a day or two between the two cities?

I know my info is old, but when I biked E. Canada in 2007, I mostly free camped. Started in Quebec then up along the river to the Loup then southward into NB to the capital, etc. I only stayed in a hostel in St. John. As long as there's forest or a church, no problem. (I camped behind many churches.)
