VIA Rail launches cyclist train from Toronto
A tourism initiative that will see bike racks on Via Rail trains is expected to bring a new crowd of tourists to Niagara. The trains will travel from Toronto to Niagara Falls and are equipped with a baggage car that can accommodate up to 56 bicycles. The Toronto-Niagara Bike Train made its inaugural journey from Toronto Tuesday and carried 35 passengers and their bikes.

Geez, at the same time that Air Canada is shutting out dogs on their planes due to 'lack of space', VIA is opening their service to cyclists by 'adding space.'
Which management team would you vote for if you had the opportunity?
Great for VIA! It'd be nice if they extended it to the Quebec-Windsor corridor. Think about it: buy a weekly pass, get on and off at several locations in the corridor for day tours. Sweet.

They are restricting 'bents' and and tandems though. SWMBO and I hoped to take our tandem down to Niagara for the weekend, but they need to know its length and weight. Why do VIA always do this kind of thing? I've been trying to get a bike on that train for years (it stops in St Catherines and Niagara before it heads to the states) because it has a baggage car but I've always been told checked baggage is for U-S customers only.
