Moving to Ottawa! Where to ride?!?!
Moving on Oct. 27th Still have some much anticipated riding time to get in before the snow hits. So far, all I know of is the Kanata Lakes trails (which is a great ride!) Now I need to know of more. I hear it's great for riding... But there has got to be more then just the paved leisure trails... RIGHT?

I'll still come down to Kingston a lot and bring my bike with me though. |
Also, if anyone knows of any good bike shops as well?

Great bike shops: Cyclo Sportif Bertrand just over the bridge in Hull. Excellent product selection/fitting. Full Cycle in the East is also good. Bushtaka in the west is also good from what I hear.
As for riding, here in the National Capital Region (NCR) the Gats (Gatineau hills) is a true Mecca for cyclists of all types: lots of hilly paved roads with minimal vehicular traffic and lots of trails for Mtb'ers. The NCR pathway system has loads of networked pathways on both sides of the river, mostly asphalt, some crusher dust. And of course, Ottawa is surrounded first by its 'greenbelt' (off limits to development) and then by rural farmland with endless miles of rural roads that beckon. I can't speak to the off road trails in and around the greenbelt but I'm sure there are some... Welcome to Ottawa. Come see your money. ;) Phil |
lol @ "come see your money"
Thanks Phil... You're a lot of help for sure! Just under two more weeks of Kingston. Hopefully snow holds off ... lol |
re: "Come See Your Money"
A few years ago, the newly created Super Ottawa arising from the multiple bouroughs in and around the area held a contest for a new logo. The eventual winner was "Technically Beautiful" or something like that, alluding to all of our parks plus acknowleging our Hi-Tech sector. Dumb if you ask me. So the National Post had it's own mock contest and the phrase "Ottawa, Come See Your Money" was one of the entrants. I kinda like it and it's stuck with me all these years. So Fist, what kind of cycling do you do and what region are you going to settle? BTW, I'm a roadie and the only real partner I have is my nephew who mtb's for Queen's interclub team. He bought a roadie last spring and we did some great rides to the south as well as one trek up into the Gats. The pinnacle of the climb is Champlain Lookout that offers a magnificient view of the Ottawa valley. Awesome ride. In the Gats there comes a point in the Fall before the snow flies where they close it off to cars. Lots of cyclists continue to frequent the roads. Once the snow falls, the x-country skiers take over.... BTW, you can google the NCC pathway system and see their interactive map. It gives you a good overview of the main pathway system in and around the NCR. Keep in touch. |
"Come see your money" is even more funnier now that I have the explaination. lmao!!
Well Treker, I'm more of trail rider myself. I'm also in the same situation as you, but opposite I guess. Not too many partners. And yet a few friends who only ride road bikes. A friend of mine who lives in Constance Bay was telling me about the Gats as well. Can't wait to try those ones out, for sure! I will be settling on Bayshore Dr. Directly across from the mall. Just got the place on Monday. And also working in Kanata. Count down - Week and a 1/2 to go! |

I always enjoyed riding along Diamond view rd. and the like up to Galeta and sometimes to Arnprior. Some of the roads in that area are in terrible shape but the bike path can take quite a ways out towards Carp. |

HAHAHA!! Yeah man... It all happened last week. Way too fast, but a good opportunity came knocking and I had to take it.
I'll still come down to Kingston a lot and bring my bike with me though. Hey Jason that’s great news despite losing a new riding partner! Good luck. We have friends in Kanata there around March road in a new development. Nice place lots of bike lanes it seems. I’ll hit up Justin on F/B I’m sure we will cross paths again but Cheers for now. |

I'll be getting my new phone number today I think... So if you're still offering those boxes to me, I'll pass on the number. Then when ever you make the trip up to Ottawa we can hook up for a peddle! |
