Good shop for a used bike in Toronto
Hello,
I am looking at acquiring a used bike for roughly $300-$350 for use in Toronto. More specifically, I am thinking about undertaking the 8.8KM trip from mount pleasant & Lawrence to Bloor & Spadina. This route involves some street and some paths so I assume that a hybrid would be suitable.
From what I have read on these boards, when on a lower budget, it is often wiser to buy a good used bike then spend that same money on a new bike. That being said, has anyone dealt with local bicycle shops that sell used bikes. Has your experience been good?
Thanks for your input!
Paul

I've only heard that Cyclemania was good. https://www.cyclemaniatoronto.ca/
Alternatively, you can check Craigslist but you have to pretty much know what you're doing.

be cautious of bikes shops in town that purchase stolen bikes and then resell them
see this thread as am example ---> https://www.bikeforums.net/eastern-canada/432622-potentially-stolen-bikes-spotted.html

I have limited bike knowledge so I'm especially concerned about being taken... I'll check out the cyclemania and see how it goes.

Look up Mike the Bike in Toronto. He only deals with used bikes and does NOT deal with stolen bikes. Great guy with a solid reputation

Bikes on Wheels in Kensington (Augusta, just south of College) is a good choice for your budget.

While I think Mike the Bike is great, he's serving a lower price point than you want. That is, you can afford a bit better, so buy a bit better, and you'll be happier. The folks there are really helpful, and the used stock changes every week or so -- you'll find what you want soon enough.

Does Mike the Bike sell used/obscure parts as well as whole bikes? I'm wondering if he might have a rack that will fit my old folder...
