I hope someone finds this of interest. The other pedestrian/cyclist bridge (by Conestoga College) makes it a lot easier to travel from KW to Cambridge IMO, so I hope this ends up working out too.
WPIRG note: This is an important meeting; a cyclist was killed on Franklin Boulevard on Oct. 28th 2009 while crossing the current bridge over the 401. A pedestrian was killed on this bridge just a few years ago. Pedestrian and cyclist friendly infrastructure is very much needed in this area.
Highway 401 Pedestrian and Cycling Bridge Feasibility Study
Public Information Session
In June 2009, the City of Cambridge and Regional Municipality of Waterloo commenced a study to assess the feasibility of constructing a Pedestrian and Cycling Bridge over Highway 401 between Hespeler Road and Franklin Boulevard. The study was initiated in recognition of Highway 401 as a physical barrier to pedestrians and cyclists. In May of 2008, City of Cambridge Council approved the Cambridge Bikeway Network Master Plan. The plan includes a recommendation for a future cyclist crossing of Highway 401 between Hespeler Road and Franklin Boulevard. The objective of the study is to identify the most appropriate location for a crossing of Highway 401 and to determine the cost and timing of subsequent steps.
A key component of the study is consultation with area stakeholders, including land owners, businesses, members of the public, and agencies. The first Public Information Centre (PIC) held in June, 2009, presented information about the study scope, problem, opportunities, constraints, preliminary alternatives, environmental and design considerations and draft evaluation criteria. Following the
first PIC, the study area was thoroughly assessed and three potential crossing locations with two approaches and exits for each were identified.
A second Public Information Centre will be held to present three proposed alternatives for the Pedestrian and Cycling Bridge, evaluation of the crossing location and approaches, the preferred alternative, bridge design options, and receive comments from the public.
The meeting will be a drop in format with a formal presentation at 6:00 p.m. Members of the study team will be present to discuss the information on display, to answer your questions and receive your input. Meeting display materials will be posted on the City's website following the Public Information Centre for those who are unable to attend. The second PIC has been scheduled for:

long time visiter
I wish I would have seen this sooner. I live in the Hespeler area and would love to see an overpass. I'll send an email to the City of Cambridge to see what the outcome of the meeting was. Thanks for the info.
