Parts Unknown (formerly in Kensignton Market, currently...unknown)
There used to be a sketchy place in Kensington Market (Toronto) a couple of years ago. The place was accessible through a narrow door that could or could not be open (you had to try your luck), and it was basically a back yard turned junkyard where someone by the name of George would let you walk around and try to find something to buy.
The place was then reportedly near Trinity Bellwoods Park, but I was never able to find it.
Recently a number of ads have shown up on Craigslist with parts and even entire bikes being advertised. The ads sometimes say "Tell George that Mike sent you" or something along those lines. There would be a phone number to call, no business hours or specific location. I always suspected it could be someone playing a joke on someone else, a prank between rivals.
Today the ad says "Selling all bikes and parts unknown - $1 (Liberty Village)" with a request to "...Call George, Previously from Parts Unknown for details."

So, what's the deal with Parts Unknown. Are they in business, are they for real, or is this just a scheme to collect people's phone numbers to sell to telemarketers? (as some ads seem to be)
Has anyone done any deals with this George? Is it worth the time to check it out?

George is a likeable guy and I have dealt with him many times in the past without any problems and, personally, I never felt that his operation was sketchy, just a bit off of the beaten path. That said, I have no idea if that is his number or not or whether he has a store in Liberty Village or not. If you are looking for something specific that is towards the higher end, George is probably not the guy you want. Cam might be a better place to start.

Yes, as JT says, Cam is a guy with a shop near Dovercourt and College who has a lot of great stuff and who often has good prices. I have dealt with him many times and he is honest too. Search "cam" on Craigslist.
